History
Founded in 1858 as gold camp, Denver has grown to become the largest city in a 500 mile radius – the shopping, entertainment, business, sports and cultural capital of the vast Rocky Mountain West. In 1909, a year after Denver successfully hosted the Democratic National Convention, business leaders founded an organization that would grow to become VISIT DENVER. Its mission: to bring conventions and visitors to Denver for the economic benefit of the City, its community and our membership.
Since 1999, the Denver & Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame has been recognizing the leader of the tourism and hospitality industry in Denver.
Celebrating its 100th year anniversary in 2008, VISIT DENVER has played a key role in tourism and hospitality in the Mile High City.
From humble beginnings to the metropolitan capital of the West, the Mile High City of Denver is widely recognized as a premier tourism destination throughout the world.
